The community theater was founded in 1969 by graduates of the Department of Theater at UH Manoa and is now a local classic. The viewpoint on the way to the top provides short history lessons on the podiums with photographs that detail the history of the viewpoint and the area, the history of the park in terms of growing sweet potatoes, and the culture of the native Hawaiians who inhabited this land. Both galleries, known as The Art Gallery and The Commons Gallery, are located in the University of Hawaii art building.
